UNIT 6&7

OVERVIEW

Unit 6&7 focuses upon creating and building a brand and using design techniques and theories to create the brand. This will be created on photoshop, illustrator and the other softwares. To get a high grade, I will need to include lots of detail and conduct lots of research into. Additionally, I will need to combine all of the theories and techniques I have learned from the earlier designs. This will help the design correctly target the audience and make sure the designs effectively convey the emotions needed. The deadline of 14/02/25 means that to do the work for the deadline will need to be done at home as it is not much time.

BRITISH VALUES

The British values are principles that are viewed as important for citizens of the United Kingdom to live and conduct themselves by. Therefore, within the course they will also be important for creative work. The five British values are democracy, mutual respect, tolerance, rule of law and individual liberty. Each aspect of the British values will massively help in creating designs and working in the environment surrounding us. The first value, democracy, is all about people coming together and working together to make decisions. This is important in group projects or settings where you would be in a group because it means that everyone gets a say in whatever is being decided. Tolerance and mutual respect both link in with each other as they both look into respecting each other and being of accepting of each other no matter differences. This is very important in design as learning about different cultures and faiths allows you to include them within designs. Additionally, it also prevents you from possibly offending a group of people through a lack of knowledge. The rule of law helps you by allowing to understand the guidelines and why it is important to stay within those guidelines. Finally, individual liberty; individual liberty is freedom of speech, which allows everyone to express themselves in different ways. This allows us understand and accept the environment around you and work effectively with people in it.

FOUR P'S

The fours P's of marketing are four key elements that a designer to reach their target audience and create the most effective design for that target audience. The four P's are product, place, promotion and price. Product focuses upon the product(s) that is being marketed, looking at the quality and features of it so that you properly are informed what the product does and why someone might buy it. Place, looks at where the locations are that the product is available. This helps make sure that product is actually available in the area you are promoting it in and ensures convenience. Promotion highlights the different ways to market the product and shows which type of marketing would be most suitable which ensures visibility from the right target audience. Finally, price which looks upon the pricing of the product and whether it is a price customers will be willing to pay for the product. Strategies like discounts are particularly effective when trying to attract customers but still trying to make a profit.

SPORTS DIRECT TASK

Group project

For this task, we had to promote sales in local stores. Therefore, we went to the local Sports Direct in Barnsley town center. However, before doing this we needed to plan out what to do using a marketing mix including the four P's. The four sections: promotion, price, place and product all are vital aspects of creating a design so it is important to include them in the planning section of a design so that it is clear what needs to happen to make your design as effective as possible. A marketing mix is a good way to plan as it allows you split your project into four areas which makes it clear and helps you create an idea of what your advertisement might look like. Promotion focuses upon how to promote the company and why different ways would be effective to promote it. Price helps you budget and use resources effectively so that you aren't don't go over budget but also not do something because you think you won't have the funds for it. Place allows you to figure out where you a going to get content and where you may possibly film something. Finally, products assesses what the products are that you are promoting and what will work to promote them

For this advertisement, we found a deal for Black Friday for the Manchester United 24/25 home kit for 25% off. Therefore, to promote this, I first needed to decide on a target audience and thought that the most likely people who are going to buy or want something like this is younger generations, possibly ages 7 to 30. From Unit One and all of the other work I have done so far in this course I know that for younger generations vibrant colours and bold text work best as they stand out and present creative tones. Therefore, I decided to put the text slightly behind the model of the kit. I did this as it presents a sense of mystery and gives a way to put the information in a creative and varied way. So, I had the text going down with the kit and as the kit slightly fades from a lighter red to a darker I decided to do the same with the text - this helps match the picture better and varies the image instead of looking a just a wall of red text. Furthermore, red is very commonly associated with passion and love which helps the fans link their passion of football and their team with the kit and possibly makes them more likely to purchase it. Additionally, I used visual hierarchy in the design by making the most important information the larger parts. For example, at the top in the biggest point size, it says "SALE" this immediately catches the attention of the viewer and along with the sports direct logo in the top left (the place where viewers eyes go to first) people clearly know what the purpose of advert and are more to pay attention.

I also decided to make an advertisement for Sports Direct as a whole and took a picture of the whole store and the various different deals within it. For this, I also decided to hide the text behind elements in the picture. I chose to do this as it creates a sense of mystery and keeps viewers wondering, peaking their interest and creating curiosity. To do this, I duplicated the layer of the original picture and removed everything behind the shoes close up by hiding the original layer and carefully removing everything with the eraser tool Then, when you make the first layer visible again, the image looks the same. Now, you can place text in between the two layers so it gives the text behind the shoes effect. For the text, I decided to use visual hierarchy and make the name of the company in a bold sans-serif font to highlight the name to the audience and make it immediately clear what the advert is about. The font stands out to the young target audience as it presents the brand as trendy and simple which links in with current trends. However, to help it differentiate from other adverts I added the slogan briefly going over the name in a serif font. This keeps the link to the target audience whilst also adding further mystery and showing to their viewers that it is still luxury clothing and can compete with others in the industry. For the colouring, I chose red, blue and white. I did this as it is the company colours of Sports Direct and are very recognizable and popular to the point where if someone didn't read the words they would still be able to know who made the advert.

BRANDS

A brand is more than just a logo or a name, its the identity of a company or business. It includes everything to do with the company, from colours and fonts to emotional connection. A good brand builds trust and demands recognition through many different methods which are unique and different to other companies. For example, beyond selling products, a good brand would create an emotional connection with their audience and build a community around themselves. This is effective is building loyalty and building your presence within the industry because if customers trust your brand then a positive reputation is released to other members of the public.

BRAND TERMINOLOGY

Brand personality

Brand personality is the way a brand expresses itself through colours, beliefs, core values and visual identity. It is about the way someone feels when interacting with your brand rather than how the brand looks. It can make a brand feel nicer and a better place for customers to buy from and helps them connect more with a brand therefore become more likely to buy from it and recommend it to other people as it something they like and want to share with people.

Brand loyalty

Brand loyalty is when brands secure customers and the customers remain loyal and keeps buying from that company. It is when customers buy from one brand instead of buying from competing brands. Brand loyalty boosts peoples connection with a brand and makes them feel more secure with buying from your brand and more likely to recommend it to people. It is important to build the brand loyalty as it presents your brand as trustworthy and therefore customers are able to buy from your brand without worrying.

Brand recognition

Brand recognition is way the way people know your brand, this can be through colours, images, icons or anything to do with the brands visual identity. It is a way to make your brand more worldwide know and recognizable and links certain feeling to your brand.  Brand recognition makes your brand stand out more in congested areas as it people recognize it from certain aspects. To make it stand out more you have to make sure your logo is unique and differs from others - especially others in the same industry. This is because if you company has a similar logo to an already big and recognized brand then people wont remember it.

Brand association

Brand association is the emotions or feelings people connote with your brand to make people feel and think certain things about your brand. This is important as it allows you to insert the brand into a customers mind and subconsciously promote the brand through everyday things that a person might see which remind them of your brand. Furthermore, associating emotion with your company is something which makes someone think of excitement or joy then they have a far higher chance of buying from you.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS

Superlatives

Rhetorical

Testimonial

Aliteration

Superlatives are the form of a word which show it is the best of something, this is used to promote something as better and present itself and the "best" or "most". For example, biggest would be the superlative of big and bigger.  Superlatives "shows that a noun has the most extreme degree of a quality in comparison with at least two other nouns".(https://proofed.co.uk/writing-tips/).This presents the idea to a viewer that whatever is being advertised is the best and is something they must have. This also allows them to associate these words with your brand and you products which helps a lot when selling.

A rhetorical is question asked to make a viewer ponder a statement or make a statement rather than to gain information. It is used to make designs more interesting and to get viewers to question things rather just immediately accepting things. Making viewers wonder and contemplate ideas allows a designer to build interest and traction in a design.

A testimonial is an endorsement of your product from a customer, this helps show to other customers that your product is good and they should also buy it. It is pretty much a positive review of your product to increase the trustworthiness between you and your customers. This allows other customers to be able to see that your products are worth it as there are glowing reviews from lots of other people, making it more trustworthy.

Alliteration is when two words adjacent to each other begin with the same sound or letter. For example pickled peppers and it is used as sounds pleasing and grabs the attention of the reader. This helps adverts seem more lighthearted and catchy which helps with a tone of happiness or calmness. Additionally, it makes your brand more recognizable as alliterations are easier to remember.

OOH ADVERTISING

OOH advertising or out of home advertising are the adverts you see outside of your home. Therefore, it is important that the advert stands out and catches the attention of people. For the task, we were told to create a billboard for an unbranded chocolate bar. Therefore, for my billboard I made the entire billboard the chocolate bar and cut the corner off to insinuate someone had taken a bite out of the bar. This is obviously something that is not common and allows you to use creative methods to promote your product. So, the unusual nature of the billboard is more than likely to gain attraction and allow people to be actually interested in what you are promoting. To make the bit mark in the chocolate bar, I used the eraser tool to create the bite mark and then used the spot healing brush to remove the white background and make it fit in with the background. Additionally, I used superlatives to promote the bar. This, inserts the idea into the viewers mind that this is the best chocolate and this is the one they should buy. Furthermore, I used a bold, sans-serif text font to highlight it to the viewers as it stands out and is more likely to make children want the chocolate, which is probably the main target audience.

PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES

Ethos

  • Appeal to credibility
  • Trustworthiness

In design, Ethos represents honesty and reflects the credibility of something as it builds trust and creates a bond between the company and its customers. It strengthens the trust in a company by using reviews or celebrities to promote their products. This uses ethos as seeing other people rate something highly allows a customer to gain more trust that the product they are buying is something that is good because there are all these positive reviews from other people who have bought it. Celebrities especially build trust in a company because if a popular famous person promotes a product people are more likely to trust them as they like the celebrity and have already built trust with them.

Pathos

  • Appeals to Emotions
  • Play on feelings

Pathos appeals to a viewers feelings by creating emotional engagement by evoking emotions such as happiness and nostalgia. Furthermore, it also allows the advertisement to remain in the viewers mind for longer as they have connected to it and emotions tend to stick longer. Pathos is particularly useful when trying to persuade someone using sympathy. Therefore, it is typically seen in charity adverts and in advertisement where it is for a cause to help less lucky. Pathos is useful here because designers can make the viewer feel sad and sympathetic for whatever the charity is trying to help.  This makes them more likely to be involved and want to donate to the cause. However, with Pathos it can come off as manipulative if overused, so it is important to not overuse it.

Logos

  • Logical appeal
  • Facts/statistics

Logos targets the logical side of people and tries to advertise to them by using facts. Logos uses clear statistics to build trust and prove a point by presenting an audience with lots of facts so that they can make their own decision, having knowing all the facts. Typically, Logos is used in infographics as it allows a designer to present the facts in a direct and logical layout. However, it can also be used to back up something with facts to show proof of something and validate the content of the advertisement.  Logos is also referred to as the logical appeal and examples of it in advertisement include "the citation of statistics, facts, data, charts, and graphs" (https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/logos-definition-examples).

AIDA MODEL

The Aida model is a "model that identifies the stages that an individual goes through during the process of purchasing a product or service." (https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/management/aida-model-marketing).  The Aida model has four stages, attention, interest, desire and action. The goal of attention is capture the audiences attention. To do this, designers would use eye-catching images, vibrant test, bold text - anything that stands out. This, then links to the next part of the model, interest; after their attention has been drawn, the goal of interest is to engage the viewer. This is done by using appealing information or something compelling. Then, desire; the purpose of desire is to create a connection with the viewer to make them want the product by showcasing and emphasizing elements of the product. Finally, action. Action is trying to get the audience to take the specific action and buy the product which is being sold.

To display the Aida model, I decided to create an advert for Apple and combined the persuasive techniques with the Aida model to make it as effective as possible. For attention, the viewers eyes are drawn by the bold text font. The bold text font will originally capture the viewers eyes as white on top of black stands out a lot due the contrast in colours. The colours white and black show that Apple is a professional and honest brand which they can trust. Then, for interest, I used the persuasive technique of Ethos and put the well respected and liked celebrity Samuel L Jackson. This builds credibility and catches interest as he is someone who is very trusted, so if he is promoting something then people know that it is good. Also, he builds their interest through his popularity as people will wonder what is good about the product that Jackson is promoting it. The desire comes from the text and the facial expression of Jackson. This is because through the wording of "the joy only found with Apple" and the smile on his face it associates emotions like happiness and joy with the brand and therefore also comes the desire as viewers will also want to experience the "joy". Finally, action comes from the logo and slogan at the bottom which prompt the viewer to "think different" and take a risk to buy the product.

LOGOS

A logo is an essential sector of a brands identity as it is more than just a symbol of a brand it can show a brands personality, values and mission. A logo will be the first thing a customer notices so it is crucial that the logo fits the companies ideas and presents a strong first impression on the customer. Furthermore, logos help build brand recognition which helps customers remember the company and remember its products. Also, logos are very important in evoking feelings of trust and loyalty which helps build the brand loyalty. As a logo is a very important part of a brand, it is important to ensure that they work and is a good logo. A good logo is which fits the companies ideals and still being memorable to the viewer through whatever methods fit the feel of the company.

DAVID AIREY

David Airey is a well-known graphic design and author who specializes in logo design and brand identity. He has written several different influential books, which share his thoughts and provide insight into designing a good logo. Airey believes that making a logo is not about just making something that is visually appealing but also about making something memorable, which links to and makes a viewer create an emotion connection to a brand. Overall, his approach to logo design is about longevity, focusing on logo designs which can survive for a long period of time effectively representing a brands identity.

20 brands in 20 minutes

PANTONE COLOUR OF THE YEAR

For the colour of the year this year, Pantone chose Mocha Mousse a shade of brown. This is significant as Pantones colour of the year commonly determines the colour things are made as it forces the colour on trend, which means across the year the colour will be used more and more. Therefore, the popularity of the colour will mean creating designs where this colour is prominent will boost sales. Overall, I find the colour of the year surprising as brown itself is not a very popular colour and one which doesn't go well with many other colours. Furthermore, the colour doesn't have any significance from the year as nothing happened where this colour is an important factor of it. However, like previous years, the colour will most likely dictate design trends and will be prominent factor of the marketing this year.

LANESRA

For my company, I decided to do a company which makes kits and jerseys for sports teams. The company will produce any types of kits for any sports and will focus on making trendy and modern kits to target the younger generation. To promote the kits, I will use social media and OOH advertising mostly as they work better for the target audience. The company will be similar to companies such as Nike and Adidas as they also create kits, however my company will only focus on creating sports kits. To make the kits effectively show the team's personality, I will need to conduct research into the team and the history and culture surrounding it. Furthermore, I will need to make sure that home kits accurately represent the team's personality with the right colours and vibe around the kit. For the name, I wanted to make up a name which sounded professional and elegant, therefore I began thinking and I thought a good way to create words was to reverse already existing words. So, I thought about my passions and came to Arsenal ( the football team I support). Then I reversed it to come to Lanesra. I liked the name as it sounded fancy and represented the brand effectively.

INSTAGRAM SET UP

To have a valid place for me to post the social media content, I needed a to set up a social media platform. I chose Instagram as all the advertising I was doing involved images and no videos, which out of all the platforms, works best for Instagram as most other platforms work best with videos. For the profile picture, I chose my second logo design as the purpose it was designed for was to fit the dimensions of a profile picture. The logo presents a modern and sophisticated look to the brand which works well for a primarily clothing brand as most people prefer their clothes to be associated with luxurious and stylish rather than affordable. Additionally, I added a bio saying "home to the best kits in the world". Adding a bio allows you to briefly attempt to entice a viewer into looking into your page and exploring more of your posts. Through my bio, the viewer will see the superlative of "best" and want to see for themselves if it is truly the best, making them explore your posts. Overall, Instagram and social media allows you promote your brand to wider audiences and primarily younger audiences.

BRAND GUIDELINES

LOGO PROCESSES

My brand is a brand that will make sports shirts for sports teams, therefore the logo will need to be professional into to present the luxurious side of the brand. This is important as sports shirts are very expensive and therefore people will want their shirts to look elegant for that price. The target audience is a wide variety as people from anywhere of all ages can enjoy sports. However, the people who are more likely to buy sports shirts are younger audiences as older people may be less likely to wear it in public. It is helpful to sketch out multiple ideas beforehand as it allows for many different ideas and stops any problems as you have other logos to fall back on to. Experimenting with logo concepts makes sure you can fully make the best logo and use all different designs to work out what works best. The people giving feedback will be important because it removes personal bias. This is because you may think something looks good and works for the brand but people who fall in the target audience can give you feedback and help you to improve it. This will make the logo more effective as it shows the reactions from the target audience and how they will react, which makes it the best it can possibly be.

LOGOS PRODUCTION LOG

LOGO 1

For the first logo, I decided to use the bold version of the font impact in a black colour. I chose to do this because the bold, sans-serif links to the target audience better. This because the target audience is 7-30 age range as in public you typically see far more younger audiences wearing sports shirts as usually they are bright and vibrant, which means it is better for younger audiences. Furthermore, the black thick letters present a modern and luxurious yet affordable feel to the brand. However, this by itself would too basic and wouldn't interest the target audience.

Therefore, to make it more effective I used the single column marquee tool to create random vertical cuts in the logo. This creates an aspect of mystery and will create a wonder factor from viewers which is bound to intrigue the target audience.

Then, I used the single row marquee tool to create the horizontal cuts in the logo. This gives the design overall a modern and distinctive look, different to logos from similar companies in the industry. This helps build brand recognition and allows the logo to be a more remembered and remain in the viewers mind for longer.

Overall, the logo was more of a backup and a very simple logo which could work if needed to. In my opinion, this is the weakest of the five as it is not eye-catching and doesn't properly portray the personality of the company.

LOGO 2

For my second logo, I decided to go for a more modern trend in logos and connect two of the letters as it presents a simple and modern way to create a logo. Furthermore, the dimensions of the logo will fit far better in a social media profile picture than a seven letter would. I chose to do L and N as when pronouncing the name you pronounce it La-nes-ra so those are those two most prominent sounds in the word which will increase recognition of the brand as people will be able to more easily tell which companies logo this is. I chose black for the lettering as black signifies professionalism and sophistication, which links to the company as they create luxury kits which are expensive and therefore want to be presented in a way that justifies their price.

However, on its own I felt the logo was basic and possibly didn't show the creativity of the brand. So, I decided to outline the letters with straight vertical and horizontal lines. Straight lines connote strength and commitment which helps viewers associate this to the brand and connect the love of their club to brand. Commitment shows the brands values as people who buy the shirts for the teams they support are committed to that club and so it helps show that the brand is also committed to try and the make the best kit possible for the fans and customers.

Once completed, the logo looked like this. To make it as attractive as possible, I made sure that all of the outlines were all exactly the same distance from the letter. I did this as it shows the company as a more thoughtful company rather than a company that doesn't even care enough to make their logo professional. Furthermore, the parts of the 'n' left without an outline is intentional as I tried it with an outline and it looked to congested and overwhelming but the gap in outline also presents a sense of mystery which might get viewers wondering why there is a gap there. Finally, I added an extra line connecting the design and filling in a bit of white space. Additionally, it adds the mystery element and just makes the logo look more appealing.

LOGO 3

As for my third logo, I decided to use the same font as the first logo because it links so well with the target audience and overall looks appealing for the target audience. However, on its own it would obviously too basic and would just be a typeface so it wouldn't catch the eye of anyone. Additionally, like logo one I used the black to convey elegance and used the bold font to attract younger audiences into buying.

Therefore, to make it more appealing, I decided to add two horizontal lines across the top and the bottom of the name and made one miss the first two letters and one miss the last two letters. I did this as it is more creative than the typical lines across the top, which more intrigue and builds the interest in the logo. I used horizontal lines to convey smoothness and stability to show the quality of the clothes is good and highlighting to the viewer that the company is trustworthy.

However, I wanted to convey more in the log and make it more vibrant in order to further entice the target audience. When thinking what else I wanted to convey with the logo, I decided that royalty and luxury would be important to people who buy these expensive shirts. Therefore, I used purple as the colour theory skills we learnt in Unit One taught us that purple conveys luxury.

On the other hand, I also wanted to convey passion in the design as it links in with the fans passion for their teams. So, I made the top line red originally but the red and purple didn't go well together. Therefore, I decided to change to red to a maroon colour as it is shade of red and still conveys the same emotions but fits better with the bottom purple line.

LOGO 4

For this logo, I tried to create a more professional and fancy logo. Therefore, for the text font I chose a serif font. The serif font targets older audiences as it appears more fancy. However, as the target audience is younger audiences I chose the font Cochin as it is still a serif font but has less flicks than a normal serif font which means younger audiences can also appreciate it. I chose black for the text colour as it presents the brand more professional and shows importance.

On it own however, the text would to be too basic so I decided to put 3 red pentagons at the start of the word. I chose to do it at the start of the word as it stands out more and highlight the wording better. Pentagons is suitable shape choice because they symbolize "complexity, balance, and harmony"                           (https://pixcap.com). This aligns the brand with these positive connotations and shows to viewers that the brand embodies those qualities.

Then, I decided to adjust the kerning of each individual letter so that they all connected together. This reinforces the idea of community and that everyone who wears the clothes is apart of one big community. Adjusting the kerning, also allows the design flow better from each letter as they are all connected together.

Eventually, the design came out to look like this. The design effectively represents the brand values and shows the creativity of the company. However, for me, it doesn't have the correct vibe for this type of industry. This is because of the typeface as I dont think it works for the company and maybe doesn't attract the right audience. But, this shows the importance of planning and creating lots of different drafts before creating the final piece as it allows you explore all the different areas possible. On the other hand, I could see the logo for a company of a more formal nature like a bank company because it shows elegance and gives the impression of luxury.

LOGO 5

For my final logo (and the one which I think fits the company best), I decided to use the same font from the first three with black lettering. The Impact font, works perfectly for creating the logo for the company, due to it being a bold sans-serif font. This helps allow younger audiences to gain interest in the brand from the logo because younger audiences tend to like sans-serif fonts a lot more than any other type. The black hints at the fact the this company is the best and other this company is better that its rivals in the industry.

To make the logo more creative and eye-catching, I decided to add six triangles split in three on each side. Then, I created a pattern but putting one upside down triangle in the middle of two normal triangles. The triangles are all the same size and all the same distance from each other. I made sure to keep it this way because symmetry is commonly more favourable and shows the company cares about the small things as making it leaving it uneven presents a lazy vibe.

To add the extra design to the logo, I chose triangles. I chose triangles as they signify action and power. This links to the company as they use action and power are words associated with sports and create the link of between sports and Lanesra to people who haven't heard of the brand.

 SOCIAL MEDIA POST 1

Production Log

For my first social media post, I wanted to create the kit for the upcoming season. So, who better to create a kit for than the team I support. To get the base of the kit I went to https://appinsports.com and copied one of their kits onto a Photoshop document. Then, I temporarily made the background of the project yellow just to make editing the shirt easier as having it yellow highlights the shirts and makes it more clear to see where I had gone out of the boundaries of the shirt with the brush tool.

For the next stage, I selected all of the non-creased areas of the shirt with the magic wand tool and used the paint bucket tool to turn the shirt red. I chose red as the classic colour of Arsenal is red and it will resonate with fans as the colour means something to them and is important to them that it is the classic red. Then, I used the magic wand tool again, held down SHIFT and selected all of the creased areas of the shirt. Next, I selected a slightly darker shade of red and used the paint bucket tool to colour it, which presents the idea of creases in the shirt. This makes the design look more realistic and gives a better representation of what the shirt would actually look like.

Then, I decided to add the classic cannon from the Arsenal logo instead of the entire logo. This makes it clear who the kit belongs to but allows for a minimalist yet effective way to include the badge. Furthermore, this model will be copied and alter to make the second kit aswell due to it being much easier and quicker to edit than the original shirt, which, with not a lot of time, helps speed up the process.

Front

Continuing on with the front, I exported the design and opened it in Adobe Illustrator. I chose to this as for my ideas to come to life, I needed to do a lot of drawing which on Photoshop can prove quite challenging. However, on Illustrator the pen tool is far easier to use and also a lot quicker than trying to draw with the lasso tool on Photoshop. As the Arsenal logo contains the colours red, white, gold and blue, I decided to incorporate red, white and gold in the home kit design. I chose to leave blue out as it doesn't go with the rest of the colours but I am considering using a blue design for the away kit. With the white, I decided to make the collar and cuffs white with a gold strip on the arm connecting them together. I decided to this as it adds to the detail and makes it a more creative and vibrant shirt which will link better to the target audience.

Then, I went down to the bottom of the shirt as it felt very boring and needed some extra detail to improve it. Therefore, to match the top, I included the same gold trim from the top of the shirt and layered it over white corners. This links the whole design together with the colours and layout remaining the same throughout the whole shirt. The gold and white also present a luxury and successful vibe as the colours are associated with these emotions.

Then, I went of brusheezy.com and downloaded a paint splatter brush. I did this as alone the kit wasn't very interesting and needed something to make it look more creative. I thought the paint splatter would work as it allows you to simply to add the further detail in a non-overwhelming and visually appealing way. I made it white to match the the badge and sponsor and overall fit the design of the kit, whilst also presenting cleanliness. This is important for a clothing brand as no one wants to buy clothing known for being dirty.

Finally, to finish off the front of the shirt, I added the logo as having it on is vital or else no one would know who made the kit. I changed the colours to white as the black wouldn't work on the kit due to the colours and white does - linking to the logo.

Back

Starting on the back, I added the name and number of the player. I chose to not include an actual name or number of a real player to show the kit was customizable, which links to the ways almost every kit making company sells their kits. I chose to do white with gold underneath to make the three dimensional look. Giving them a three dimensional look allows them to stand out more and gives a nicer design which links back to the badge and the front of the kit as I used the same hexcode for the white and gold to give the kit a professional look and show to customers that this company is dedicated to making good products. To do this, I copied the white text, changed the colour to gold, then - as I was on Illustrator - sent the gold layer backwards and grouped them. This allowed me to move the text around together to get them central without them getting separated.

Then, I added the same trimmings from the front. I did this as it gives the kit a symmetrical look which is something many people like and gives the kit a better look. The colours present a luxury and clean look which highlight the success of the club and present to customers the great history and success the club has.

To finish off the back, I added afc onto the collar of the shirt. Afc is an abbreviation of Arsenal football club so including it on the collar gives a more discreet way to include extra detail to the shirt. I used the same gold colour from the rest of the shirt and made it a very basic font with nothing capitalized. This is to add a more modern way to put it on the shirt as it links to simplistic trend in design currently.

To finish off production, I sized down the shirts and positioned them lower down on the post which allowed for the text to be put above it. For the text, I used visual hierarchy skills to make the more important information the focus of the text. For example, the "buy the" part is smaller than the "Arsenal home kit" as the attraction is the kit, however kits like this are typically expensive so having it smaller allows viewers to focus on the price and more on the design, which maybe help them consider saving up for it, rather than having the buy part larger and off putting the viewer. Finally, I made the background the classic red associated with Arsenal, this makes the advertisement seem more traditional and helps build links to the Arsenal fan base. Furthermore, it also highlights passion and love, which build a further connection to viewer as they are passionate about their kids.

Finally, I posted it to Instagram. Instagram allows for your advertisement to reach much wider audiences and particularly allows the younger audiences to see your post. This is an effective place to post as the advert is targeted to the younger generations. Additionally, Instagram allows you to add hashtags to your post. hashtags are very useful in getting the correct audience to see you post as using keywords related to your post will mean it gets pushed towards people with those interests. Finally, I added a caption to highlight to viewers the website in which they can get all of this clothing. This links to the Aida model and provides the action by informing the viewers where to purchase you product from.

Away kit production log

After making the home kit, I wanted to make a away kit. Therefore, I used the same template I used for the home kit and just changed the colours using the magic wand and paint bucket tool. Away kits usually have no relation to what the team stands or anything to do with its colours so there was no need to follow the brand colours like the home kit. Therefore, I just decide whatever style or colour I wanted. So, I went for the main colour as blue, I did this as blue represents trust and loyalty. This is important for a something people care about as for something you care about you would also trust it and using blue helps symbolize that and further builds brand loyalty and trust to my company. Like the home shirt, I used a darker blue to show all the different creases. This makes the design more realistic and presents a more natural and more accurate design of how the shirt would actually look.

Front

Back

Firstly, I added my brand logo and iconic cannon from the Arsenal logo. I decided to only include the cannon from the logo because it allows for a more simplistic and modern design which allows the design to appeal to younger audiences more whilst everyone still knowing what what it represents. Then, to the left of it, I included the logo as it being on there means the viewers watching players wear the kit will know who made the kit, therefore build brand association and recognition. For the colour, I chose to do a very pale blue colour to remain prominent against the darker blue but still look nice and match with the blue.

Then, I added the sponsor. The sponsor makes the kit more realistic as it includes details from the real kits. Furthermore, I made sure it had the same pale blue colour as the logos to help show professionalism and make the design look better because if there was a slight inconsistency in the colours then it would show laziness.

To make the kit more creative and visually appealing, I added these wavy lines across the whole front of the shirt in different colours of blue. Wavy lines can "create a sense of rhythm, harmony, and calmness. They can also imply movement, sound, or water depending on their amplitude and wavelength" (https://medium.com/). This calming look to the shirt helps build trust through the smooth, rounded lines, which helps the customer feel more comfortable buying something peaceful and welcoming. Having the lines different shades of blue helps them blend in with shirt, whilst still adding creativity to it, removing the basic appearance.

To finish off the front of the shirt, I added the same dark blue sleeves and top of the shirt from the back as it makes the shirt look better rather than having a sudden change in pattern. To do this , I used the polygonal lasso tool to select the area on the shirt and then used the paint bucket tool to colour it in.

For this, I started with the back of the shirt because during the home shirt, I realized it would probably be an easier start place. Unfortunately, I lost the first screen shot where I just added the lines and logo at the bottom. Although, its not much of a problem as I can just talk about it here. At the bottom, I added three wavy lines to present a calm appearance and have minimal clutter on the design to present a more modern design. Additionally, I added my logo very small in the bottom right. Having the logo here, further builds brand recognition and the low opacity black makes it still stand out despite being so small. Next, I added extra design to the top of the shirt and the sleeves by adding a slightly darker blue for it. This just adds a further bit of design and makes the shirt a bit more appealing and creative. Now, I added the text. I left the number as 00 and the name as name to show that it can be customized and customer can add whatever name or number they want, which makes the product more appealing as people can make it personal to them.  The contrast of the grey and light blue makes the name and number far more unmissable and stands out a lot on primarily blue shirt.

Finally, I worked on the collar. To make the collar more visually appealing, I added shades of blue in two sections across the collar (which would find downwards from the side and not be visible from the front). This adds some creativity to the collar and makes it more vibrant. Additionally, I added "AFC" across the back of the collar meaning Arsenal Football Club which links to the more simplistic look by not including the whole name.

Then, I adjusted the way the shirts were set out.  Rather than having structured and set out next to each other, adjusting the set out makes it more eye-catching and adds a more lighthearted theme to the advert because it breaks away from traditional layouts making the advertisement feel more casual and fun. This is especially effective in advertising to younger audiences because it adds the extra creativity which hooks younger audiences. Additionally, I put it in the bottom left of the post because due to direction that the front of the shirt is tilted, the text can be curved around the right of the shirts. Furthermore, I changed the background to a light blue. Having darker elements on a light background makes the elements pop and stand out far more than a darker background.

To finish production, I added the text. i positioned the text so that it matched the motion of the shirts and followed the tilt and trajectory of them. This helps the design appear more fluent and means everything has to be seen and nothing can be missed. As it was a social media post, I used a bold sans-serif font which stands out and makes a design look better to younger audiences who will be using social media a lot. Furthermore, I made the text so that it was behind the shirts. This adds depth and realism by making the shirts more three dimensional rather than flat, making the whole design feel more sophisticated and high-end. Finally, I made the text white to further play on the relaxing feel of the shirts as white symbolizes peace and tranquility.

Finally, I posted the advertisement to Instagram. Instagram allows you to add hashtags, hashtags direct your post towards people who actually have similar interest to what you post is promoting. Therefore, I chose keywords related to the post to try get the Instagram algorithm to show the post the correct people. The caption directs viewers to the online store and gives the call to action where people can then go and buy our products. Overall, the design targets the calming side of fans, the fans who use sports and football as relaxation by keeping a consistent mellow theme.

UGC (USER GENERATED CONTENT)

UGC or user generated content is content created by real paying customers who have actually purchased and tested the product rather than someone who may of been paid to promote it and not have actually tried it out and paid for it. UGC presents more a more authentic look which helps make the average person feel likely to buy it as it makes the product feel more natural. It allows an advertisement to be more trusted as it feels more genuine, boosting engagement by making your brand feel more personal and connected in an cost-effective way. UGC is authentic and more experience-driven than brand-pushed content because no fabrication, embellishment or Photoshop is involved. Instead, it acts as the modern form of word-of-mouth advertising, which has always played a significant role in consumer purchasing decisions (https://www.forbes.com).

SOCIAL MEDIA POST 3

Production Log

For this post, I wanted to use a footballer as a model for the kit. I wanted to do this as using someone famous uses ethos and makes something more credible and trustworthy. This is because people have a connection with these people as they like their personality or something about them, which makes them more likely to trust them. The player I chose, (Bukayo Saka) is a perfect person to model the kit as he plays for the team and is known for being nice and is well liked amongst all football fans rather than just Arsenal fans - appealing to neutral fans as well. Furthermore, this season, he was considered one of the best in the world so this publicity will make it easier to sell the kit. To start the production, I found an image where he was modelling the current kit and pasted it onto Photoshop where I colour the background in the red. I did this as Arsenal is associated with red and recognized all across the world for this colour so it was vital the background be that, whilst also presenting passion and highlighting tradition.

Then, I removed the kit from him by using the magic wand tool to select all the areas where his skin was showing and deleting all of the rest of the layer. I did this because it allows me to put the kit on underneath his arms as if I didn't do this then the kit would just be over him rather than making it look like he is wearing it. Having him wearing it, presents a more accurate look of what it would like and gives the advert a more professional and real look.

Next, I added the kit. To add the kit, I copied the kit from the first social media post and resized it so the shirt holes lined up with his body parts. As you can see, his arms are now in front of the kit, making it a better representation of what he would like if it was real. The colour of the background matches the colours of the kit which allows the post to be more visually appealing to viewers and therefore stand out more.

Finally, I added the text. I chose to not include the logo, as from similar styles of advertising as this they commonly dont include the logo as to seem more minimalist and modern so I just included the name of the player. For the text, I used the same gold colour as it links to the kit and also the badge of the club. Through the red and gold, passionate and luxury emotions of advert are presented and people immediately know just from a glance that the post will have something to do with Arsenal, peaking the interest of football fans. Additionally, I made the text a bold sans-serif font. This makes it more appealing to the younger generations, the younger generations who will be the ones using Instagram and will the be the ones seeing and interacting with the advertisement. Therefore, it is a good way to draw viewers in.

As it was a social media post, I uploaded it to Instagram where the bright colours and bold text will be bound to peak the interest of some people. Furthermore, I added hashtags on the post so that the post is shown to people who would actually be interested in it. This is because if a, for instance, a basketball fan saw the post then the post wouldn't interest them. However, the hashtags associate the advertisement with these topics allowing it to be seen by the correct audience. Also, I added a caption asking viewers to "Join Saka in wearing the NEW Arsenal home kit". Highlighting the "new" allows the attention to be brought to that word, which will get the viewer interested as everyone likes new things.

INFLUENCER MARKETING

Influencer marketing is a form of social media marketing which uses people who are well respected and well known and uses them to promote product. Influencers operate independently, creating their own content and integrating a company’s advertising specifications into it. The influencer is in control of the brand's message, choosing how they would like to portray it. This promotes authenticity and can help reach a specific target audience (https://www.forbes.com).

OOH ADVERTISING 1

Production Log

For my first out of home advertisement, I wanted to make a billboard promoting some shoes as the brand is a sportswear brand, who do sports footwear similar to Nike and Adidas. I chose this picture as the shoes are clearly the main focus of the photo and can I could easily make a billboard around them. Furthermore, the shoes contain different variations and shades of blue. Blue presents to viewer a sense of relaxation and promote loyalty. This allows the viewer to link the relaxation of the running shoes to exercise and therefore could convince them to buy a pair and take a calming run or some sort of exercise.

Firstly, I duplicated the image and hide the visibility of the original image. This allowed me to use the eraser tool to remove the background and have only the shoes on this new layer. Doing this, allows me alter the background without changing the shoes at all. A change in the background allows you to highlight the shoes more and make them the main focus of the advert and stand out more. Additionally, it allows you to put other assets between the background and the shoes - giving a more interesting and creative way to include additional information.

Next, I changed the background to black and white. This highlights the colours and shows forces the shoes to be the main focus of the billboard. The blues stand out far more on a black and white background as any unwanted distractions are removed, allowing the viewer to to be directed to the things that the designer wants them to look at rather than losing focus on things in the background.

At this point in the production, I used the spot healing brush to remove all of the previous branding from the post. The spot healing brush replaces selected areas with what it thinks it should be. Therefore, it allows you to remove all the unwanted things and add your own things. Removing the branding, shows that it is a photo for this company and not any other.

Then, I added my logo into both the top left and onto the shoe. I put the logo in the top left as it is the first thing viewers will look at, which therefore means they will immediately know who made the advertisement and know where to go to get it. For the colour, I made it same hexcode of blue as the shoe to make it look better alongside the shoes and also highlight credibility, making viewers trust the advertisement. I also put the logo on the shoe so it makes it look professional and relates to every footwear company who include their logo on their shoe to promote their brand even further. I made it the same light blue colour from the shoe to help it feel more natural on the shoe.

Finally, I added the text. I made sure I used a bold text font to stand out and and also made sure to use the same hexcode from the logo for the blue. This shows dedication and presents to viewers that the brand isn't lazy as if the colours were slightly off it would show that the company cant even be bothered to make it match. Furthermore, I used visual hierarchy skills to highlight the important information, making the rhetorical question the largest thing on the billboard. I did this as rhetorical questions are "a useful technique in persuasive writing. As there is nobody to answer the question, a rhetorical question is usually designed to speak directly to the reader. It allows the reader a moment to pause and think about the question" (https://www.bbc.co.uk).  Additionally, above that I included superlatives to highlight how this brand is the best. However, I made "cheaper than ever" and "lighter than ever" smaller as the "better than ever" part is the main selling point and therefore needs to be the most prominent thing on the billboard. To finish, I made up a name for the shoes; a name which took inspiration from other companies and sounded exciting and cool whilst linking to the current naming trends in the trainer industry.

To highlight how it is a billboard, I went onto mockuptree.com and downloaded a mockup to put it in. This allows you to get a realistic image of what it could look like, allowing you to assess if it actually works. Looking at it in a mockup, I realize that, whilst not very eye-catching, the billboard would work perfectly in area of high traffic where people can actually take some time and look it rather than it just catching their attention for a few seconds. This is is because, the persuasion comes from the text rather the imagery so it would work better this way.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST 4

Production Log

For my fourth post, I wanted to a new sport and decided to go with basketball for its vast popularity in the states. Many companies similar to mine sign athletes, this means that the athlete is paid to only wear your companies clothing and promote your brand through their popularity. This is an effective way bring your brand to life and adding some brand personality to your brand. However, this means that it is important to carefully pick who to promote your brand because if you picked someone is falling out of the spotlight or maybe someone who has a bad reputation then this person will represent your brand is the wrong way. Therefore, it is vital you pick someone who is well liked, still relevant and a good person. So, I picked the basketball player Luka Doncic. Doncic is a younger basketball player who is currently one of the best in the NBA and is very liked amongst all the fans. This makes a good person to represent the brand as his popularity will bring attention to the brand and the fact that he is young helps for the future as he still has a lot of his career left where he can become even better and grow with the company.

To make the post more creative and eye-catching, I used the slicing tool. The slicing tool allows you to add a modern and creative look making the image stand out more. Furthermore, it gives a sense of movement and energy, which fits in with the sports theme of the post. To do this, I used the polygonal lasso tool to select different parts of his body and then slightly moved it to give the cut look. However, I left his face untouched as it is important the viewer can tell who it is or the advertisement would be pointless. Overall, the doing this to the image creates a unique aesthetic and almost three dimensional appearance by immediately grabbing the attention and presenting the dynamic energy of the athlete in motion. Additionally, this type of design is perfect for sports related posts as it symbolizes speed, power and amplifies the sense of action.

Then, I added the text. For the colours, I took the hexcode from the basketball for my logo and the hexcodes from the kit for the rest of the text. For the logo, I made it orange and put it in the top left. I did this as the orange stands out from the rest of the post whilst still presenting the basketball theme through the iconic orange that most people associate the sport with. I put it in the top left as it it is the first thing people see and after looking at Doncic the viewer will immediately know the link between the two and therefore be more interested in the post as they will want to find the link between the two. Then, I added "official lanesra athlete" in a lighter blue above Doncics' name. This makes it stand out more next to the name but I used visual hierarchy skills to make his name the main point of the advert so the viewer will first read his name then will read the additional information. For his name, I used a darker blue to link to the two types of blue on his kit and help it feel more natural in the advert. Additionally, I added the cut through his name only to highlight it even more and give his name a more stylish look.

To finish off, I used the burn and dodge tool to give the different fragments more detail and make it look more natural and three dimensional. This helps highlight the different fragments of him as you use the burn tool on the edges to make it darker - presenting a shadow like look - and use the dodge tool in the middle to help enforce the shadow design and make it look more like someone is shining light on it.

Finally, I posted it to Instagram. Instagram is the best place for this advertisement as it is, without a doubt, targeted to younger audiences as the fragmented look, sans-serif text font, bright colours and vibrant imagery work far better for a social media post. This is because to and older audience this may seem overwhelming and wont work for them at all however for the younger generations an advertisement like this will look cool and interest them. Additionally, I added a caption and hashtags to make sure that it reaches the correct audience and draw them in with a engaging headline.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST 5

Production Log

For my fifth post, I chose to do another kit redesign for a basketball team. The team I chose was the Philadelphia 76ers due to one of the their players - Jared McCain. McCain is a young, up-and-coming star in the team, who is becoming very widely known and popular due to his recent impressive performances. Therefore, he would be a perfect athlete to use as a model for the kit because particularly the younger generations like him. This is important when considering where the advertisement is being posted. As it is being posted to Instagram, it will need to appeal to younger audiences as most older audiences wont be on social media and therefore wont be able to see the post. To start production, I pasted the image into Photoshop and used the spot healing brush to remove the design on the kit. This allows me to create my own original design on the kit rather than using the pre-existing one.

Then, I added his jersey number and team name. I used a bold font to highlight the characters and made the size of the text very large to cover the whole front of the shirt. I chose to have a very simple design to follow current NBA shirt designs as typically the shirts being worn focus on colours more than imagery and patterns. Additionally, instead of putting the full name of the state in Philadelphia, I shortened it just Phila as it is what most people refer to them as. This makes the shirt more modern and accepting less formal ideals of including names on a shirt. For the text, I made it red originally and duplicated the layer to have the white underlay beneath it. This makes the wording more vibrant and helps it stand out more. The red presents courage and passion which links to the passion the fans have for their team, making them associate themselves more with the jersey and therefore more likely to buy it. Furthermore, it follows the same pattern as the trimmings on the kit which helps connect the whole kit together and make it look more natural on the shirt.

To finish it off I added the a version of the logo onto the shorts and the actual logo in the top right corner. Due to the way McCain is standing, there was no space to include the logo in the top left; however, it also looks good in the top right as it uses it up some of the unused space. Additionally, to make the logo link to advert better and help build a connection with the fans, I changed the colours of the logo to match the jersey. This will help fans of the team more intrigued by the logo and more willing to check out the company as the company is repping their teams colours, building brand loyalty and personality. Furthermore, I also include a version of the logo without but without the actual name in it. This follows the trend currently of minimal detail on logos, for example, Nike only using their tick on their logos as their company is so big and can be recognized just from that. Doing this, follows the trend and highlights the modernness of the company through the simple and minimalistic look of the logo. To make it look like it was actually on the shorts, I lowered the opacity of it to make it less vibrant and more realistic.

Finally, I posted it Instagram. Instagram allows the target audience to actually see it and through the use of hashtags the post is promote to the right people rather than people with no interest in basketball. Furthermore, Instagram allows you to include a caption to draw the viewer in and entice them with a catchy headline. Overall, the post works as a simple post to showcase and highlight a player wearing a shirt designed by my company.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST 6

Production Log

For this post, I wanted to do another post where I used an athlete and signed them to my company. Doing this means, the athlete would be paid to wear the brands clothing and used to promote the brand. Therefore, it is important you pick someone whose popular and known as a good person in order to present your brand in a good light. This time, I decided to pick Lebron James. James is the most known basketball player maybe ever and widely regarded as the best ever. This makes him a suitable candidate for the company as his skill has made him the biggest name in the basketball world and helped him build up a large fan base.

The first change I made removing the background from James to allow me to add a new background and include other assets that would look out of place. To do this, I used the select subject button and it selected James and then all I had to do was press CMD + X to delete the background and copy the selected area.

Then, I added a different picture of James from behind. To do this, I copied the image and removed the background. Next, I moved the original over to the left more so that both picture fit in the advert together and so it didn't feel overcrowded. Having the two pictures of him, show a dynamic contrast as the left picture shows him in action and the right showing his identity and presence. Furthermore, it gives the advertisement more depth and layering as the the pictures are taken from different angles making the design less flat and therefore more engaging. Doing this emphasizes his jersey and name, with the front facing picture creating a personal connection with the viewer as you can see his face.

Next, I added the background. The Lakers, (the team James plays for) are know for their iconic yellow, purple and white brand colours. Therefore, it was important for the design to feel cohesive and personal that it included the brand colours as they convey more than just brightness, they also convey the brand personality. Additionally, to make the background more eye catching and outstanding I added four diagonal lines using the Lakers colours. Each line represents one of James' championship rings. Furthermore, diagonal lines convey movement and energy in shape theory, which fits the athletic and fast paced theme of the advertisement and basketball. Also, I left some space in the top right where the logo would fit perfectly. Overall, the background is detailed enough to add interest but not so overwhelming that it distracts from the main images.

To remove the last of the unused space, I added my logo in the top right. I purposefully left this space as I tried it with and extra line and the design looked overcrowded, so I thought what the space could be used for and came to this conclusion. To further push the brand personality, I used the same purple and white from the background to help the post link together better. Additionally, this shows to Lakers fans that the brand is associated with their team and by using the colours helps viewer build a connection and brand loyalty with our brand.

To finish production, I added the text. I used a bold sans-serif font as a advertisement like this is targeted towards the younger generations and as it is going on a social media platform it needs to stand out. Sana-serif works for this post as younger audiences tend to prefer this type of font style as it is presented as more modern and stylish. Originally, I had the text as just purple to link with the rest of the advert. However, readability was hard so I added the black underlay to help it stand out more and be more readable. Although, looking at it now, I may of changed the position of the "athlete" part of the text as, to me, it feels slightly out of place.

Finally, I posted the advertisement to Instagram where bold text, vibrant imagery and bright colours will easily catch the attention of of basketball fans. However, to make sure it got to the right audience, I used hashtags related to the topic to make sure it reaches the right audience. Additionally, I added the caption of "Lebrons wearing our clothes now, why arent you?". This includes the audience and makes them feel more involved and by making them think about the answer to the question the post becomes more memorable.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST 7

Production Log

For this post, I wanted to make a product for combat sports and what better than boxing gloves. Boxing gloves need to be simplistic and cool for boxers to be interested in buying. Therefore, I got an image of red and black boxing gloves which I can alter to add my own branding. The red and black colour combination is "often used to symbolize darkness, strength, intensity and danger" (https://www.quora.com), this is effective for a product for a combat sport because it is an intense sport where a lot of strength and commitment is required.

Then, I used the spot healing brush to removed all of this companies design so I could add my own. This allows me to add my own design to the gloves and make the product an original product for my company.

After using the spot healing brush, I used the the space I created to put my logo vertically with red lines accenting and highlighting the logo. Having the logo this large and as the main feature of the gloves, adds to their premium appeal and adds a cool, futuristic vibe. I added the red lines either side of the logo because it gives the gloves a sleek and modern appearance as without them, the design may look to plain and boring.  Having the logo vertically is different but works as it suggest to viewer the brand fancy almost like a designer brand. To make it more realistic looking, I lowered the opacity as it makes it look as if the lines are more a part of the design rather just on top of it.

Next, I added some extra detail to the wrist part of the glove. The first thing I did was include a form of my logo, which used only the shapes to create a whole shape and use a more modern and simplistic design to include the logo. Having the logo like this mimics, for example, Nike with their tick and represents our brand in a high-end way. Furthermore, having it as just black signifies power and elegance, which helps boxing fans associate themselves with our brand because elegance and power link to boxing. Additionally, I added wavy lines along the strap and adds some movement and can also "create a sense of rhythm, harmony, and calmness" (https://medium.com), further building a connection between the brand and customer. Finally, I added a black background with the words "20%" off in a grey colour. The black background plays on the cool and dark theme of the gloves, keeping everything looking elegant and modern by presenting the serious fighter mentality immediately, nothing else distracting the viewer from the main point of the advertisement. Having no unnecessary effects or distractions makes the design purely professional and shows to viewers that this a serious and important advertisement.

To make the text pop even more, I added an image in the text to highlight the deal. To do this, I used the magic wand tool and Shift to select each character and delete that space in the black background. Then, I lowered the opacity of the text so you could see the image I had put beneath it. I did this as embedding a fight scene in the text adds energy and presents the theme of the advert with no extra space needed. Lowering the opacity instead of just removing the text, gives a high contrast as the white and grey of the fight scene stands out on the rest of the dark advertisement and still remains easy to read. The text font, is a sans-serif typeface with is bold and impossible to miss, creating a powerful and strong appearance uplifting the viewer. The deal makes the gloves more appealing as everyone would rather get something cheaper than paying full price, therefore building up the short term sales as deals dont last long, meaning people will capitalize on the chance to get something cheaper than it normally is.

Finally, I posted the image to social media. Social media allows a huge range of people to see your post and means way more people would see the advert. Furthermore, the hashtag feature makes sure that the audience seeing you posts is the audience you actually want to see it. This because through using keyword related your post, Instagram will show the post to people who are interested in the topics. For the caption, I said "fight like a champion with our new gloves". This makes the viewer more interested by the post and makes them want to fight like a champion and helps them associate being a champion with our product.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST 8

Production Log

For this post, I went back to football and changed a kit for Barcelona Football Club. I chose to Barcelona because of the star player in Lamine Yamal they have. Yamal is seventeen year old star who took the footballing world by storm in 2024. Due to his great skill at his young age and playing for one of the biggest clubs in world, Yamal has amassed a large fan base and therefore makes him a perfect person to promote something right now. This current popularity means that he will bring a lot of attention to the brand, which shows why its important to capitalize on his current trendiness.

First, I used the spot healing brush to remove the branding and all the of the actual sponsors. This allows me to add my own branding and own details to the kit and make it an actual kit for my company as if it has other branding on it then it will obviously be misleading.

Then, I added my logo to the shirt. The logo shows to viewers who made the kit and allows them to be able to know where to buy it if thats want they want to do. I made it yellow as Barcelona is mostly recognized by red, blue and yellow. As the kit had no yellow on it yet, I decided to make it yellow. This gives the kit a more traditional appearance and creates a deeper and more emotional connection with the fans as the colours represent their team and therefore also represent them and mean something to them. Additionally, I used the noise filter and lowered the opacity of the logo. I did this to make the logo look more realistic and make it look like it is actually on the shirt rather than edited on using Photoshop.

Finally, I added the text. In the top left, I added my logo because it is the place viewers will look first. This immediately allows the viewer to see who made the advertisement and helps build brand association, knowing who made it. I made all the text yellow to link back to badge and the traditional colours associated with the club. Doing this, creates a more memorable and personal viewing experience which builds brand recognition and means the brand will remain in the viewers head for longer. For the text on the right, I positioned it so that it nicely complemented the corner of the post fit nicely in the post. Additionally, I made sure that it sure underlaid Yamal as it gives the design a more three dimensional and therefore interesting look which will make the advertisement more appealing. The bold sans-serif font in yellow stands out on the background and makes the text unmissable, whilst also presenting happiness and joy with the connotations that yellow holds.

Finally, I posted it to Instagram where it will be seen by younger generations mostly which helps as the target audience for this is younger audiences. To make sure these target audiences actually see this post, I used keywords and related to the post made them hashtags so the post is pushed towards the right people. To draw viewers in, Instagram also allows you to add a caption which can interest the viewer and draw them in by emphasizing or promoting something.

OOH ADVERTISING 2

For this advertisement, I made another billboard where the idea was to use a famous athlete and create some form of limited edition product around them. As I had only done three sports so far, I wanted to do a different one and I chose tennis because very big and popular sport where there are lots of different products and opportunities to create a advert. For the athlete, I chose Novak Djokovic because it is main consensus amongst tennis fans that he is the best or atleast the most successful. This makes him a perfect person to create a advertisement around because, although he is getting older, he is still very good and still competing at the top level. Furthermore, with all of his success, comes fame and fame means that many fans will idolize and look up at him, so using him will be perfect in motivating certain people to purchase the product.

To start the production, I gave Djokovic the motion blur effect. To do this, I had to duplicate the original image and use the eraser tool to leave only Djokovic. Then, I duplicated the layer with just Djokovic on and lowered the opacity on both of them. Finally, I slightly moved them away from his body to create the ghosting effect. This effect mimics rapid movement, which enhances the energetic feel of the advertisement. This makes the advertisement more eye-catching and helps the viewer remember it as this effect is less common. Also, I used the spot healing brush to remove the branding from his shirt and racket as it allowed my to add my own design and branding without it being confusing to the viewer.

Next, I used the hexcode of red from his shirt and used it to make my logo the same red. This helps give the billboard a more fluent and symmetrical look and highlights the passion, intensity and dominance that he shows when playing. Then, I added it to the top left because it is the first place the viewer looks, so they immediately know who made the billboard and go through looking at the rest of the post with that knowledge in their head. Furthermore, I added my logo onto his shirt and racket to present that equipment he is using was made by our company.

Now, I made the background darker and made the tennis racket more prominent in the design. To make the background darker I made a new layer and used the paint bucket tool to colour it black. After this, I lowered the opacity of it to make the background darker. This forces attention to Djokovic and creates a more dramatic atmosphere where he is the central figure with no distractions. Additionally, I used the magic wand and paint bucket tool to made the racket red. This helps it stand out more on a dark background and makes original and unique to my brand rather than a different brands.

Then, I added the text. For the text, I made it alternate between red and blue on each line linking to the colours on his kit as I used the same hexcode from that shirt. Having the colours alternate on different lines makes it look more interesting and grabs the attention of the viewer. Furthermore, the bold sans-serif font makes the design powerful and unmissable as it is positioned around his body. However, attention will mainly be drawn to the large "OUT NOW" as the size and 3d look makes it prominent on the design. I did this because underneath there is the website where the products are sold and people can buy them from. This advert uses the Aida model by first grabbing the Attention of the viewer with the popular athlete being the main subject. Then, their Interest is built up by ghost effect and dark background and mixing with the bold text they are made the Desire the product. Finally, the call to action comes as the last thing the viewer will see as the website directs them to where they need to buy it.

Finally, I went onto mockuptree.com and downloaded a mockup to put the billboard in. This presents a realistic example of what it would like it was actually used as a billboard and allows you to change anything if necessary. Overall, I think the billboard captures the the right emotions and could successfully influence someone into getting these products if it was real.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST 9

For my final post, I wanted to make a post just advertising some products. So, I thought about what sports I hadn't done yet and chose cricket. I chose cricket as behind football, cricket is the second biggest and most popular sport in the world. Therefore, making an advertisement for cricket will bring lots of interest and eyes to the post due to the large cricket fan base. First, I coloured the background grey because I plan to use the type mask tool for the text and having that on a grey background will stand out a lot more and the grey and blue together create a cohesive look, which complement the cricket bat design. I chose this image as it shows all the sides of the bats and gives a better idea of what the bats will look like.

Then, I used the spot healing brush to remove all the branding. This allowed me to add my own branding and make the advertisement more real and professional looking. Having another companies branding on my product would be confusing to the viewer and make it obvious that the product has just been edited on  Photoshop to make the their product look like ours. Additionally, I added my logo to the front, back and side of the bats to make it clear who made the bats and builds brand recognition. I made it blue because it matches the colour scheme of the bat and presents a sense of relaxation and calmness to viewer. Many people find doing sports calming so it helps the viewer associate with the bat more.

Next, I added the text and the border. The border helps contain the design by keeping everything structure and matching the colour scheme. Furthermore, the square highlights a sense of stability and unity to viewer as according to shape theory, viewers typically associate these things with squares. I decided to put the logo in the bottom left instead of the top left because I tried having it there and the text beneath it, however the design looked a lot better like this as the text better matches the layout of the bats. For the text, I used a bold sans-serif font because I planned to use the type mask tool and having image visible in the text. Therefore, having large and thick letters makes the image more visible and stands out more, making the message unmissable.

Finally, I selected each individual letter with the magic wand tool and cut a hole in the grey background layer so the image of a cricket pitch underneath would be visible. Then, I lowered the opacity of the text so instead of the natural colours of the image, they had a blue tint to it. This makes it match the design and colour scheme far better than having random unrelated colours that the original image contained. Using the type mask tool, making the text far more visually appealing and uses a creative way to make the text more eye-catching.

I posted it to Instagram because the advertisement was designed to be a social media post through the format and overall design of it. This is because the square dimensions of the post works perfectly for an Instagram post and the bright colours and vibrant imagery works best for younger audiences and social media is the best place to advertise to younger audiences. Additionally, I added a caption saying "hit like Don Bradman with our new bats". Don Bradman is regarded as the best to ever play cricket so by saying this it makes the audience believe they can be as good as him with these bats, building interest in the post.

EVALUATION

The aim of unit 6 and 7 was to research into branding and marketing and branding - learning strategies, terminology and rules. Learning strategies and rules, allows you to understand how to effectively create a design which will creatively build the interest of the viewers and actually promote your product. Then, learning the terminology allows to accurately put into words and describe what you have created within the justification. Additionally, we also researched into audiences and created brand guidelines for our company. Researching into audiences allows you understand how and why you influence the audience and further allows to make a the right advertisement for right audience. An example of this would be if you were making an social media post for young audiences and used traditional, serif fonts and uninteresting and non-vibrant colours and imagery. This wouldn't work for the target audience, therefore the usefulness of researching into audiences is presented as it teaches what would work for that audience. Brand guidelines use most of the different skills and theories we have learnt not only in this unit but also from the other previous units to make a blueprint of what your brand could look like. This is effective in making sure you have direction and make sure everything links together. Finally, we made our own brand, using lots of different techniques to promote the brand and products of the brand, which allowed us to combined all the knowledge we learnt into the project.

For my brand, I decided to make a sportswear brand called Lanesra (similar to companies like Adidas and Nike). I chose to do a company in this industry because in future, I would like to do something where I create in marketing where I can promote a product to the public and design different advertisements. Therefore, to give me an impression of what it could be like I chose a brand that wouldn't go anywhere and was easily transferable over trends and can evolve to match modern trends. This allowed me to a majority of online advertising as the company was targeted to younger audiences and needed to highlight the sporty side of the brand, using the skills we had been taught. Approaching the task, I wanted to make three posts for five different sports but with the time and technical problems I ran out of time. However, I still could follow the same structure of the way I was going to do it. The way I did it was by first picking the sport and then planning out what and how I would do. This prevents problems and allows you to to create a time frame and stick to the deadline. The planning involved in making the brand was through by researching into and evaluating the ways different brands in the same industry conducted their advertising. This allowed me to see the current trends whilst still making my brand unique and memorable. In the production stages, I faced some technique problems where I could not access the designing software from home. To combat this, I focused all my class time on creating and design as from home it was impossible and at home I spent all my time on doing the write ups, which overall worked and allowed me to finish my work on time. Overall, I feel my brand managed to associate itself with sports and sports equipment through the different advertisements. Brand recognition comes from the modern logos, the bright colours and vibrant posts  - the brand gets recognized as exciting and energetic sportwear brand. This is important when considering the target audience as younger audiences will prefer the bold approach to marketing as research has shown lively and fun advertising work best for younger audiences. The brand establishes itself as modern yet with uses bright colours and vibrant imagery to show its personality of luxurious and exciting. As with all the other units, the British values played a huge rule in making sure every design was as good as it could be. Respect and rule of law were both used during class time to make the classroom a nice place to learn as everyone was treated fairly and with respect. Furthermore, rule of law was used by everyone, as listening to teacher when she spoke showed that everyone understand the rule of law. Learning about different audiences also uses the value of tolerance because when learning about the audiences you are also shown different cultures and how to advertise to different types of people. This allows you to be a more understanding person and accept how everyone is different and also be able to effectively market to different people. Democracy was shown in class discussions where everyone contributed and different debate and conversations emerged to settle a topic. This encourages everyone to get their viewpoint across and allows everyone to see what different people think. Finally, individual liberty, which was used in product as everyone creates their own separate designs and make these however they want without being told how to do it. This allows for you to be able to freely create whatever you want, however you want - in your own vision. In the future, I could possibly do a bit more out of home advertising as it would help to have more variety and I could also use video editing skills to make a video advertisement. This is because different forms of advertising work better for different audiences and with a target audience so large and varied there would be further mini audiences which you could potentially use to advertise to personally. Similar to other other companies in the industry my brand uses famous and bright vibrant colours to promote their products. This is useful in making your brand appear more trustworthy as people commonly tend to be more attached to famous athlete and therefore are more likely to trust them if they something is good. However, to differentiate from the competition my brand focuses on colours and colour theory. Although other brands use colours, they dont use them in the same way. This is because my brand uses as the main selling the point - using the colours to highlight things without actually saying them. This allows to viewer to link the emotions to the products without feeling like it is being forced upon them. On the other other hand, other brand use them as an undertone to just highlight something. This difference, allows my brand to keep up with current trends whilst also standing out from others. This is important as if you dont stand out, people wont feel the need to buy from you as they dont see anything intriguing or special about your brand.

In other projects, I carry over these skills from this unit to so the same things I have done in this unit to creatively and effectively design good advertisements. The brand guidelines especially helped in assess the direction the company is going in, so it important I continue to do that planning as it helps your production stay on course. Unit six and seven as a whole as helped me strengthen my software skills through more practice and also developed both my software knowledge and my theoretical knowledge. Overall, maybe without the technical issues, I could have done better, however I am fairly happy with have I have done throughout this unit.
